Size: 7 x 9 in. (17.78 x 22.86)

Publication: Vienna from 1800 to 1822.

Condition Report: Overall good condition.

Description:

Exceptionally rare, originally hand-colored engraving from Austrian pharmacologist Ferdinand Bernhard Vietz's Icones plantarum medico-oeconomico-technologicarum.

Vietz was the artist and engraver for the work. He was an Austrian physician and Doctor of Medicine. The work was published at the beginning of the Biedermier period. It took influence from the works of Blackwell, Weinmann, Zorn, and Woodville.

According to the British Natural History Museum, the publication is considered exceptionally rare: "Today, the work appears to be of extreme rarity, not being held in any other of the United Kingdom's national or public library collections. Only three copies have been found in North American libraries, of which two are certainly fragile and in need of conservation. One copy is in the Austrian National Library." (Great Flower Books (1990) p. 147; British Natural History Museum)
