Am taking the opportunity of this cruise, to write to all the [mem]bers of the club, reminding them of the auction, Feb. 27th. I know that this is not necessary in your case, but [I] wanted to include you in a ‘Mudjan’ greeting. While writing, the ship: ‘she goes up, then she goes down, then she goes round and ro-end’, as they sing in Tin Pan alley, and lightening is streaking through the sky, like a cracked plate. All of which doese [sic] not improve my one finger typewriting technique nor my split infinitives, but I hope you will forgive me, Yours philatelicaly [sic], Georgette Hauf

A letter written en route to Bermuda by a resident of Scarsdale, New York, commenting on the motion of the ship, likening it to a Tin Pan Alley song. Hauf, whose husband used his middle name ‘Hugo’ to liken him to the French writer Victor Hugo, is writing to a friend from her philatelic club to remind her of an auction and signs our letter ‘Yours philatelicaly’ [sic]. Hauf’s ‘Mudjan greeting’ could be a reference to Mudgin Harbor in Middle Caicos, the largest of the Turks & Caicos Islands as her ship sailed from there north to Bermuda. With an envelope bearing a 2 ½ d. Bermuda stamp and Hamilton cancellation with an indicia reading ‘Bermuda The Isles of Rest’. Both the letter and envelope suffer some paper loss. Cello tape to the vertical fold tear of the letter. In fair condition.
