Brightening winter days with its luxuriant color and its singing, the cardinal is a welcome sight wherever it appears. This rare, original watercolor - drawn on chain-linked, watermarked paper - is taken from an early nineteenth century Germanornothological manuscript book derived from the work of famed Swedish scientist Carl Linnaeus (1701-1778), known as the "father of modern taxonomy." Once a common sight in Bermuda, this beautiful bird is now more likely to be found in a painting, and this one brings it to vivid life as originally conceived by some of the foremost German naturalists and illustrators of the time.
