“…in 1778 Venetian Antonio Zatta produced a 12-sheet set of maps which could be assembled to form a wall chart of the eastern part of North America. This included a very prominent Bermuda map serving alternatively as frontispiece to the bound volume or as titlepiece of the wall chart. Zatta’s La Colonie Unite Dell’ America Settentrionale (The United Colonies of North America) measures a little over four feet square when all 12 sheets are joined. The most appealing aspect of his map is the whimsical decorative embellishments. Bermuda is depicted as if drawn on a heavily used scroll of paper or parchment. Most striking is the vignette of two ships at anchor and a dense forest of palm trees and undergrowth. … the novelty and charm of Zatta’s Bermuda have long made it a favorite. An extremely rare variant features a special “Press Antonio Zatta” decorative imprint.

This highly decorative map is presently on the market elsewhere for a significantly higher price in excess of $3000.
